How does it work?

Water jet cutting consists in applying a strong jet of water produced by a high-pressure pump. A very small diameter of water jet hits the material under high pressure and thus makes it possible to cut it. A water jet cutter is built of the newest highly-resistant materials. It enables water compression under very high pressure amounting to approximately 4000 atmospheres, so as to transfer it subsequently to the cutting head. The pressure energy in the head is changed into kinetic energy, whilst water speed approaches 1000m/s.

In order to increase cutting capacity and to enable the cutting of more resistant materials, water is mixed with very fine abrasives, so-called garnet. Such a cutting with application of additional material is called abrasive cutting. In this case, water is used most of all as a carrier of abrasive material (garnet), cutting the hardest materials.
